LOCATION & WARDROBE: sample session breakdown
“Where will we shoot?”
“What should I wear?”
“Examples, please?”
One of my most recent high school senior photos session incorporated most, if not all, of my guidelines I give. These locations are all in the Lamorinda Area, Walnut Creek, Alamo, Danville areas. And include both rural and urban locations.
Here's the complete breakdown of the session:
*Note: This sample high school senior portrait session was Collection I (plus 1 additional hour) consisted of 4 locations (within 10 mile radius) and 7 outfits. And included pre-portrait style consultation.
Garden Setting & White Jumper
LOCATION: Rural Local. Garden settings provide a great backdrop of florals & succulents to any portrait setting. Ruth Bancroft Garden in Walnut Creek is my favorite garden.
WARDROBE: White Backless Eyelet jumper from FreePeople: This white jumper paired beautifully with the clean and fresh garden setting. She paired it with a simple sandal.
Garden Setting & Rust Lace Dress

WARDROBE: Lace dress from FreePeople: Lace is a great pairing for a garden setting. Don't shy away from fashion forward colors. This rust color lace dress not only compliments the greenery in the willow tree but all her blue/green eyes. She paired it with a long choker necklace and complimentary lip color.
Oak Tree in Open Space & Red Lace Jumper
LOCATION: Rural Local. The East Bay offers beautiful open space and luscious Oak trees... the perfect local for any portrait session. The large oaks are great to photograph in because they offer great shade and contrasting foliage.
WARDROBE: Lace red jumper from FreePeople: Red Lace pops against the greenery of Oak tree folliage. I love that she went sans shoes.

WARDROBE: The simplicity of the basic white t-shirt, jeans and simple sandal pair perfectly with the gritty, busy graffiti water tower.
Small Town Shops & Green Dress and Leather Jacket
LOCATION: Urban Local. Small town and shops. I love downtown Danville for all of its cute store fronts and built in props like this mini coop.
WARDROBE: This urban look is perfect. The emerald green, FreePeople dress paired with a leather jacket and white tennis shoes are fun and hip and match the backdrop perfectly.

Do you use props or can I bring props?
The style of high school and college photography that I specialize in is fashion editorial with a lifestyle twist. With that said, only bring props that you feel are intrinsic to you and that are interactive. Props that are not able to be interacted with (like that statue) may not translate into photography as well as, say, a guitar. Or the vintage car, or a swing, or piece of clothing like a jacket, scarf or hat. You get the idea. :)
Where do I change if I have an outfit change?
If there is a restroom available you can change there. If not you can change in your car.
